As a result of a head on collision in a fog, of a shop car, and gravel car which occurred on the Scioto Valley Traction line at Reese station at 5:53 o'clock, Tuesday morning, one man was killed outright and another died later at Mercy Hospital in Columbus. CLARENCE GOLDEN, of Pasadena, California was killed outright and his body badly mangled. JACOB ALBRIGHT, 40 years old, was so badly injured that he died at Mercy hospital in Columbus at 8:30 o'clock. His throat was cut and he was injured internally. Both men were on the work train. The shop care was going north to Obetz junction to get workman from the Lancaster division. It had just stopped at Reese's station to take on Albright when the freight car, which was pulling three dongolas, crashed into it and telescoped it for about 10 feet. This accident occurred on a straight track. W. T. Walker, 45, of 135 1/2 East Town St, Columbus motorman on the shopcar jumped. He suffered injuries, believed to be of a minor nature. He was taken to Mercy hospital. M. S. Fisher, of Grove street, Columbus, motorman on the shop car jumped and escaped injury. George Gallagher, 25 Welsh avenue, Columbus, the conductor on the freight was not injured. Golden's body was buried in the wreckage, and it was some time before it could be gotten out. Superintendent Skinner, of the Scioto Valley said the wreck was due to a mix up in the dispatcher's orders, and that an immediate investigation would be held to fix the blame. Harry Saylor, a son in law of Isaac Goff of this city was the dispatcher on duty at Columbus. ***date written in by hand at Pick. Co. Hist. Soc. is September 6th, 1915. BELLE F. RIFE, wife of Edward K. Rife, and daughter-in-law of Mrs. E. B. rife, of this city, died at Long Beach California, Sept, 1st of cancer. Mrs. Rife was a half sister of Prof. M. H. Lewis, and her girlhood and early married life was spent in this city. She was a graduate of Everts High School. She was married to Mr. Rife August 6, 1876. In 1882, the family moved from this city to Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Rife having secured a position on the Portsmouth Times, then published by Hon. James W. Newman. After about a year's residence there they moved to Columbus, where Mr. Rife was first employed on the editorial staff of the Time, later going to the Ohio State Journal as a telegraph editor and editorial writer. For several years Mr. Rife has been employed on the editorial staff of the Los Angeles Times.
