A letter from her son in New York to another son in Coshocton inquires of her health. The next letter in my possession from the same son in 1834 makes no mention of her nor do subsequent letters. I'm assuming she died in Coshocton. Does any one have any suggestions as to how I might go about trying to find anything on this woman? Handed down: The FLETCHER family immigrated to New York from England. As they neared New York, the ship was stopped by a British warship and one or more of the FLETCHER sons was/were impressed into the service of the British Navy. He/they were never heard from again. After landing in New York, the father, William FLETCHER left the family and went some place other than Ohio. Speculation was that he may have gone to one of the Carolinas. We know that at least one FLETCHER child, Joseph, remained in New York and at least two, Adam and Nancy, migrated to Coshocton and, evidently, their mother was with them. Adam FLETCHER married Catherine TRIMMER Nancy FLETCHER married Cornelius LAKE, George GROOM, William WALKER and Silas HALSEY Thank you, Pollee Walker Kreaps ______________________________ --Boundary_(ID_bBTFBWVEuLN6Qn8tzn1Qew) Date: Sat, 5 Jul 2003 19:01:45 EDT From: SCHcrochet@aol.com Subject: [OH-FOOT] Kelso, Brown, Ebert, Cromley, Plummer, Ward To: OH-FOOTSTEPS-L@rootsweb.com Message-id: <183.1d96ec10.2c38b2d9@aol.com> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT X-Message: #2 September 19, 1907 Film #24149 Circleville Union Herald DRANK CARBOLIC ACID Mrs. Mary C. Kelso, wife of Rev. Charles C. Kelso, ended her life at their home in Columbus Thursday by drinking carbolic acid. Mrs. Kelso was 49 years old. The supposition is that she killed herself while suffering from an acute attack of nervousness, which made her temporarily insane. Rev. Mr. Kelso formerly was a resident of Pennsylvania. A few years ago he went to Washington C.H. where he was engaged in the ministry. Two years ago he went to Columbus and taught in the high school. Last year he became assistant to Dr. Gladden. Film #18627 September 7, 1907, Pickaway Paper CAUGHT IN WRECK Burley R. Cromley, railroad conductor, whose home is a Jefferson City, Missouri, formerly of Ashville, was caught in a smash up on August 13, the caboose in which he was riding turning completely over, breaking his arm cutting a gash, over his right eye, and injured his right shoulder and hip. He lay unconscious for eleven hours. Mr. Cromley is now in the hospital and is getting along first rate and says he will be out again in about two months. OBITUARY SARAH ELIZABETH WARD, daughter of Robert P. and Jane Hedges Ward, was born June 17, 1865, and departed this life September 1, 1907, aged 42 years, 2 months and 14 days. Being left motherless at the age of 17 months she was received in the home of her uncle, Joshua Hedges, who cared for her as his own child until January 5, 1885, when she was united in marriage with Leander H. Ward. To this union were born six children, two sons Hartley and Eugene, and four daughters of whom three, Mabel, Maud, and Metta, remain; while Edith preceded her mother to the spirit world. She was kind and loving mother, always interested in the welfare of her family and those around her. She united with the Ashville M. E. church, September 20, 1892, and remained a consistent member until she was transferred from it to the Church Triumphant. For about four years her health declined, for two years she could not walk without assistance, for nine months she was unable to walk at all, yet she was cheerful and hopeful, even jolly and gladsome.
