Motschman, Sr. The Shultz Family of Darke County, Ohio The Biography of Alice Kathleen Shultz Daughter of Sherman Harold Shultz and Myrtle Virginia Dalton by Francis D. Motschman, Sr. If you were near the home of Sherman and Myrtle Shultz on Walton Ave., Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, on Sun., July 26, 1931 you would hear the sounds of a woman in pain... and the cry of a new baby. The new baby would be Alice Kathleen Shultz making herself heard for the first time. As soon as Juanita 7 yrs. and Earl 6 yrs. heard the sounds they told their two brothers, Harold 4 yrs. and Charles 2 yrs., "Momma's got a new baby". They were all excited, wondering if they had a new brother or a new sister to love and play with. They were jumping up trying to see the new born when Sherman, their father, walked into the living room holding something wrapped up in a baby blanket. He sat down on the couch so that they could all get a good look at their new sibling. "OK, come here, you guys.... Say Hi to your new sister.... You can touch her and give her a kiss, but be very careful", he cautioned. Sixty six years, ten months and 7 days later everyone would be gathered around her again, this time, as she lay dying of cancer, at the home of her daughter Chris (Christine Keller Hart). She layed there and her daughter was trying to keep her focused, asking her where she was now. "In a field full of flowers", she answered. "Just keep walking, keep going toward the light", Chris told her. Alice rolled over and sat up on the edge of the bed, "Why does it take so damn long to die?" , she asked of no one in particular. She looked like she was just worn out, trying so hard to die. Chris put her arm around her and got her to lay down again. It was only about three of four minutes and her breathing stopped. It was Wed., June 3, 1998 in Miamisburg, Ohio. She was buried next to her Mother, Myrtle Shultz in the Ansonia Cemetery, Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio When Alice was a young girl, living on Stewart St. in Dayton, Ohio, with her family, she fell in love with Lawrence John Keller, Jr. and a torrid love affair ensued. They got married in St. Jame's Catholic Church in Dayton on Sat., March 12, 1949. Their first born, Kathleen Ann, arrived on Fri., October 7, 1949. They then had a boy, John Keller who was born on Tue., November 14, 1950. He was followed by Christine Keller, born on Mon., September 29, 1952. Then came Joseph Keller on Fri., May 11, 1956. Lawrence died on Sat., February 10, 1962 following a long bout with lung cancer. He was born on Wed., April 18, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio to Lawrence J. Keller Sr. and Marie Louise Tangeman. Shortly after Larry died Alice married John Payne. Everyone called him "Che'". John was a salesman for the National Cash Register, Co. in Dayton. Che' and Alice had two children: John Payne III and Shannon Payne. Alice some time later divorced Che' and after a time of being 'single', she met a Jewelry Shop owner, Phillip Wilt , of Sidney, Ohio. They went together for a while and then got married. After marrying Alice, Phil sold the Jewelry Store, in Sidney and they moved to California where he opened up another Jewelry Store. This kept him away from home so much that they grew apart and finally divorced. Alice managed a large Apartment complex for some time before she was so ill that she packed up and moved back to Dayton. She later moved in with her daughter Chris. She tried different treatments to cure the cancer but nothing worked, so she just waited to die. Alice was very creative, an excellent writer and a very good seamstress. We all miss Alice.
