Mrs. Keziah Hamlin BROOKS, the first white child born in Columbus, in 1804, died in that city, on 4th inst., in her 71st year. She was the mother of David and Henry B. BROOKS, and Mrs. S. T. DOUTHIRST, of Columbus. Mrs. KOUNS died near Millersport, Meigs county, on 31st ult., aged ninety-nine years. The new M. W. Church, at Delaware was dedicated, last Sunday, by Bishop FOSTER. A Washington C. H. special, of 9th inst., says: E. L. SINKS, a prominent business man of this place, was buried with Masonic honors Sunday. Richard WILLIAMS, an aged Englishman, died yesterday near South Plymouth, this county. Mrs. Zebulon CAIN died suddenly Sunday evening. Last Monday, the wife of Julius BOCK, editor of Portsmouth Correspondent, in removing a wash boiler from the stove, upset it on herself and two children, scalding them so badly that the children died. It is thought she will recover. Pleasant township, Madison county, has a colored school. The Catholic School, at London, established abut months since, is in a flourishing condition, and numbers over one hundred scholars. Capt. Wm. R. SMITH has been appointed Deputy Sheriff of Scioto county. D. R. HARBINE, one of the wealthiest citizens of Xenia, died of consumption at Denver, Colorado, on 8th inst. Zanesville has a new Military Company - Zanesville City Guards - Fred. GEIGER, Captain. Joseph LINN died in Swan township, Vinton county, on 1st inst., supposed to be about 100 years of age. He was a soldier of the war of 1812. The Cincinnati Commercial says, in that city, on 29th ult., Mrs. A. B. DELISLE, aged fifteen, gave birth to a child. George MCNEALY one of the oldest citizens of Gallipolis, where he resided over fifty years, died in the Athens Asylum, on 29th ult., in his 78th year. Jas. MORGAN, a convict, charged with the killing of a Columbus policeman, was pardoned the other day. He was sent to the penitentiary 19 years ago. The number of children admitted into the Xenia Soldiers Orphans' Home during the last year was 218; the total number in the Home, November 15, 1874, was 555. Peter FINK, a well known butcher of Chillicothe, died on 5th inst., of typhoid pneumonia. He was 53 years of age, and had been a resident of Chillicothe 32 years. Last Saturday, as Owen HACKETT, of the vicinity of South Charleston, was returning home, his horse slipped and fell on the ice, injuring Mr. HACKETT so as to cause his death next day. Miss Esther M. BROWN, of the vicinity of California, Scioto county, while riding on horseback to church, with several others, Sunday morning, 31st ult., dropped from the saddle and died almost instantly. Thomas E. THOMAS, D.D., one of the professors in Lane Theological Seminary, died on Thursday night, 2nd inst., aged 63 years. Capt. John A. ARTHUR, a well known newspaper man of Columbus, latterly city editor of Columbus Sunday News, died last Tuesday night, of injuries received Friday night last, when he was found by his wife, in front of their residence, with his nose broken and crushed, and complained of other injuries. It is not known whether he met with an accident or was assaulted, as he did not regain consciousness sufficiently to tell. The Chillicothe Post says the members of the colored military company - Summner Guards - of that place, indulged in a festival on Thursday evening, 28th ult., at which Walter G. BUTLER won a silver cup in a competitive drill; Thomas JONES received a smoking set for having the cleanest gun, and Miss Amanda GOINGS was voted the handsomest young lady, and presented with an elegant set of vases. Col. W. A. GAGE, Joseph SMITH and David CROUSE will represent the Ross County Granges, and J. M. NOBLE, James KEARNEY, J.T. COX and J. W. GILLESPIE, the Fayette County Granges, in the State Grange. The contract for wood-work of the new school house at Mt. Sterling, has been let to RAYBURN & HOLT, of London, at $3,100. R. NEWMAN, of Mt. Sterling, gets the brick work. The house will cost about $7,000. The Columbus Female Benevolent Society completed its fortieth year on 5th ult., having been organized on the 5th of January, 1835, in the old Town Street Methodist Church. The first officers were: Mrs. James HOGE, President; Mrs. E.W. SCHON, Vice President; Mrs. Noah H. SWAYNE, Treasurer, and Miss M. KELLY (now Mrs. Judge BATES), Secretary; Managers, Mrs. Wm. AWL, Mrs. Moses JEWETT, Mrs. Samuel CROSBY, Mrs. John BA_HACHE, Mrs. Benj. BLAKE, Mrs. Joseph RIDGEWAY, Mrs. D. WOODBURY and Mrs. A. VANHORN. Many of these have been called to higher service. The Ohio Female Seminary of Steubenville is now in its 93rd session. It has been attended by over 4,000 young ladies. W. C. CONNOR was elected Councilman from the First Ward, Chillicothe, last Tuesday, vice Matt. MERKLE, deceased.
