John Williams, the oldest resident of Milan and a former Bellevue poineer, died at the home of his son-in-law, Frank Kelley, in Milan, Thursday, Nov. 4, aged 99 years. It is a singular coincidence that he died on his 99th birthday anniversary. He enjoyed excellent health guring his long life and was never sick until his last illness and retained possession of his mental faculties until the last. Mr. Williams came to Bellevue as a boy with his parents in 1833 and when a young man helped erect the fourth log house in Bellevue, upon the site where the Wright Bank now stands. After his marriage to Miss Mary Pittenger of Ashland, they settled on a farm one mile southwest of Franks Corners, in what was then an unbroken forest. He cleared the farm and later sold, moving to Milan where he literally grew up with the town. He was a farmer for many years, retiring from active labor on account of advancing years. He was in the zenith of active life when Milan was a great grain shipping point and an important trading center for an immence scope of country. Mr. Williams was the last of a family of 13 children. He was an uncle of W.C., A.F. and S>B. Williams of Bellevue, where he visited and always attended the Williams family reunion when held here, until last year. Mr. Williams is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Mowry, of Milan. During his last illness he was tenderly cared for by his daughter and granddaughter, Miss Bessie Kelly. The funeral took place at Milan, Sunday afternoon.
