Notes for Nicholas Smith HOYT: There is confusion on whether Nicolas was born in 1762 or 1763. Was a private in Captain Butler's Company, Colonel Bartlett's NH Regiment. 9 months-22 days -1780. Pensioned on roll "O" 4 Mar 1831. Certificate # S2618 19 Oct 1832, Reference Book D, Vol 2, Page 133. He appeared before common pleas court, Morgan County, on 19 Jul 1832, he a resident of Centre Township, aged 69 years. Stated he enlisted in the army with a man named Brown,1781, was marched to Exeter, and sent to Gallows Hill, N, where the army was then encamped. Joined Colonel Scammels regiment, Captain Farewell's company. Major Morrill was attached to the regiment, which was the 2nd regiment of the NH line. He states he was born Exeter, 1762-3. He was living in Deerfield Township, Rockingham County, NH at the time of enlistment. He lived two years, same location, after end of war, moved to Kennebunk, York Co. , ME. Then one year again in Deerfield, NH. Moved to Conway, NH, two years, two years in PA at the forks of the York River, then 21 years at Waterford, Washington County, Ohio, then 17 years at his current location in Centre Township, Morgan County, Ohio. He hereby relinquishes any claims whatever to any pensions or annuities except the present one, and declares he is not on the pension rolls in any agency in any other state. Signed Nicholas Hoit. Proven and accepted by the Common Pleas Court of Morgan County, Ohio, 19th day of July , 1832. Perley B. Johnson, Clerk Wednesday, Oct 15, it was satisfactorily proven to the Morgan County Court, in open session, by the oaths of Judiah Higgins and James Heeley, that Nicholas Hoit, of said county, died on the 25th day of May, 1834. That Mary Hoit was the wife of Nicholas Hoit at the time of his death and is now his surviving widow, and that said Nicholas Hoit was, at the time of his death, a pensioner of the United States.
