SHELTON, JR. A nine year old boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Highland District hospital at 6:50pm Tuesday. He was identified as Hanson K. Shelton, Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Hanson K. Shelton Sr. Hillsboro Rt #5. The body was sent to University Hospital in Columbus after an examination there. A preliminary report indicated that death was due to a type of blood poisoning, complicated by a congenital disease and ulcerated colitis. First diagnosis had pointed to tubercular meningitis but this did not prove out. A student at Hillsboro Schools, he is survived by his parents, Hanson K. Shelton and Nellie Ann Carpenter Shelton. He was born in Brown County. He is also survived by three sisters, Eunice Jo, Debra and Linda Faye (twin of his), all at home. Services will be held Friday at 2 pm at the Charles Roberts Funeral Home in Mowrystown, with Rev. Eddie Bowman officiating. MRS. ALICE S. SMITH Mrs. Alice S. Smith 86, passed away early Saturday morning at the Highland District Hospital. She had been a patient there for the past three weeks. She was the widow of William Smith and made her home with her son and family. Donald W. Smith at Pricetown. In addition to her son, she is survived by a grandson. David W. Smith. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Davis Funeral Home in Lynchburg, with Rev. Floyd Pence officiating. Burial was in the Pricetown Cemetery. JAMES EDWARD RUBLE James Edward Ruble infant son of John Edward Ruble and Sandra Rowe Ruble was dead at birth Sunday morning at the Greenfield Municipal Hospital. JAY COLE Jay Cole 76, of 686 North East Street Hillsboro, died suddenly at 1 am. Tuesday, Nov 23, at his home. He was born on April 23, 1889, at Washington CH the son of Joseph Cole and Eliza Hardin Cole. He had lived in this area all of his life. He had been a groom for horses and was well known in this occupation. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by three brothers, Les Cole of New York City; Marvin Cole of Passiac N.J. and Charles Cole Hillsboro; one sister Mrs. Maria Whaley, Detroit Michigan and several nieces and nephews. Services were held on Saturday, Nov 27-at 2 pm at the Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Homer King, officiating and burial following in Hillsboro Cemetery. A reception was held from 2 until 4 o'clock and 60 of their relatives and friends called during that time to offer congratulations. Refreshments were served from the perfectly appointed table which was centered with a large wedding cake, topped with rose buds and the numeral 50. The rooms were attractively decorated with lovely bouquet of flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Pence were married on May 16-1893 at the home the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Orebaugh, west of Hillsboro. They have two sons, Harley of Hillsboro, and Earl Pence of Dayton. Mr. and Mrs. Pence received a number of gifts of flowers and cards, for which they wish to thank their friends. Among the guests were Mrs. Pence's mother Mrs. Rebecca J. Orebaugh, who is 89 years old, their children, grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Pence are both enjoying good health. Military rites will be conducted with Rev. I. F. Lee as the minister in charge. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. The Hillsboro man who had been living with a niece in Columbus for about a month, died of a coronary occlusion following a sudden heart attack Monday night. He went to Columbus earlier for an eye operation but apparently had recovered from it satisfactorily. He was born in Hillsboro, the son of James Thomas and Josephine Burnett McGuire and had lived here all his life. He had never married. He was employed by the Gross-Feibel Company for many years before retiring. He had made his home here with his brother, George McGuire, North West Street.
