Nolan-Frederick nolanfamilyhistory@yahoo.com May 13, 2004, 2:11 pm Akron Beacon Journal 60 Policemen Offer Blood In Vain Effort To Save Boy By: Helen Waterhouse THE "BOYS" at the police station rallied to the aid of a youngster they all loved last night, James Nolan, 11, son of Patrolman Frank Nolan, 45 Hurlburt av., but they couldn't save the lad with the happy smile who had always been the pal of his policeman father. James died just before 7 p.m. at Children's hospital following a mastoid operation. No one had realized the seriousness of his condition until the very end when more than 60 of the beat men, traffic officers and detectives crowded to the instituation to volunteer their blood for a transfusion. Only the blood of a few was found to match. Detective Arthur Adams and Ex- Patrolman Frank Maring who is on pension, and his son Frank, jr., were among those who contributed. The Crosby school student had been ill only two weeks with what at first appeared to be simply a cold. He was taken to the hopital several days ago for the operation and lived 24 hours after it was performed. Two of the lad's older brothers, Corp. Bob Nolan, and Pvt. Gaylord Nolan are en route home from army camps in Virginia and North Carolina today. Funeral arrangements will be made after they arrive. James also leaves two other brothers, Frank, Jr., of Cuyahoga Falls, and Willis "Bill", 16 at home; a stepmother and two sisters, Claire, 14, at home and Mrs.Ray Murphy (Winifred) of Cuyahoga Falls.
