So far as we have been able to get the record, sixty one of them were killed in battle. We include in this list those who were mortally wounded. We should be glad to have any mistakes in the list corrected ot to add any names which are omitted. It is difficult after forty years time to get at the facts with regard to individual cases, but we have done the best that we could. It is not nearing the time of year when we have a day set apart to honor the memory of those who died for their country and we want to put these sixty one names before our readers. Read them over and then preserve this paper. Lay it away for your children that the names of the heroic dead of Vinton County may not perish from their memory.
