He was born April 2, 1753, at Germantown, Pennsylvania. He lived in that part of Virginia which is now called Brooke County, part of which was in Washington County Pennsylvania. He lived in Harrison County, Ohio, for eight years and then moved to Morgan County, Ohio, where he had lived for eight years previous to 1832. He was then 76 years of age and therefore born in 1753. He enlisted in the service in Maryland in December, 1776. He was captured and made prisoner of war. After his escape he married.
