Ottawa is an Indian word meaning "trader" and came from the Ottawa tribe famous for its trading. Port Clinton, the county seat, attracts a great many tourists in the summer. Located here are the Erie Industrial Park and the U.S. Army Erie Ordinances Depot, one of the county's largest employers. Offshore from Ottawa County lie the "Wine Islands" noted for their vineyards.
