He had the consolation of receiving the last sacraments of our Holy Church from the hands of one of the good Dominicans of St. Joseph's. The deceased was a native of Frederick County, Md., near the town of Emmitsburg, where he spent the best part of his life; he has left a large family of children and relatives to lament and deplore their loss. He has been truly a father to the poor widow and the orphan; his house was always opened to those who claimed his hospitality, situated as he was within a short distance of Old Mt. St. Mary's College, it was his greatest pleasure and that of his amiable wife and family, to receive the frequent visits of the good fathers of the Old Mountain, and amongst them I might name those good old pioneers of the faith, Fathers Dubois, Brute, Hickey, Collins, and our own Most Rev. Archbishop Purcell, who always spoke and enquired after him in the most tender and affectionate manner. Many a good holy Bishop and priest, when they hear of his death, will offer up a silent prayer for the repose of his soul. Note: Nathaniel ELDER, son of William ELDER & Sabina WICKHAM, married, Johanna LIVERS, daughter of Arnold LIVERS & Mary Ann OWINGS.
