Conducted a preliminary walk through and took this set of both readings and photographs. The cemetery is well cared for, being nicely mowed and trimmed. Transcriptions contained herein amount to approximately 4 or 5% of the total memorials of ancestral loved ones interred at the cemetery. With out checking, I would estimate there to be in excess of 2,000 burials here. It's a surprisingly large cemetery for the size of the village. It is divided into several sections; my best guess being as in most cases, trustees or those in control of the cemetery have down through the years acquired additional land to facilitate additional burials. The oldest burials seem to be in a section located at the front right hand side as you face the cemetery entrance lane. I will attempt to return next spring and read additional memorials. As always, I take my time and remain mindful to read the stones carefully, but make no warranty of being 100% correct. The stones in the oldest section of this cemetery date back farther than most cemeteries I have visited. This cemetery actually contains the oldest stone I have ever personally transcribed, that date being Elizabeth Miller's stone, with a death date of 1811. Which makes this indeed a very old burial ground. Needless to remind folks, time, weather, and the resulting deterioration has taken its toll here as it has everywhere. I'm very pleased to comment that there appears to have been very little malicious destruction here, which is a tribute to the surrounding community. I'm responsible for all readings and accompanying photos. Please keep in mind this is only a very small sampling of this rather large cemetery. Because I've just started my readings here, I've made no attempt at this juncture to arrange the memorials read, in any particular assembly. Robert M. Sizelove, Sr. 15 October, 2000 © 1.
