The data furnished herein were obtained from the papers on file in pension claim, S.40275, based upon the Revolutionary War service of David Potts. He was born sometime in November, 1756, place not stated. While residing in Loundon County, Virginia, he enlisted December 5, 1776 and served as a private in Captains William Smith's and William Slaughter's companies, Colonels Daniel Morgan's and James Wood's Virginia regiments, he was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Mommouth, storming of Stony Point, and was discharged in December, 1779. He subsequently served under Colonel West in the Virginia troops at the capture of Cornwallis, length of service not stated. He was allowed pension on his application executed April 22, 1818, at which time he was living in Pickaway County, Ohio. In 1820 he stated that his family then living with him were as follows: his wife, her name not given, aged about sixty-two years; two children, Nancy aged twenty-three years and David aged about fourteen years; and one grandchild, Polly Wolverton, an orphan, aged over fourteen years.
