The Clark County sheriff's office said George M. Whaley, 49, of Rt. 1, Springfield, died of wounds suffered when his step-son James L. Brown is being held in Clark County jail at Springfield, under $5,000 bond on a charge of assult with a deadly weapon filed shortly after the shooting. Officers said additional charges are expected to be filed at an arraignment set for Jan 5. Surviving are Whaley's widow, Mrs. Lula Brown Whaley; a step-daughter, Mrs. Joyce Kemper of Huntington, W. Va.; a step-son Daniel Brown at home; and six sisters, Mrs. Louise Newton and Mrs. Cora Pettit, both of Waverly, Mrs. Ina Sager and Mrs. Sarah Sager, both of Amlin, Mrs. Mary Askins of Swanton and Mrs. Muriel Blair of Monclova. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Jackson-Littleton Funeral Home in Springfield with buriel in the Omega Cemetery. Additional Comments: This wasn't an actual obituary, it was a news story because of the cause of death. George was born on Aug. 4, 1918 in Pike County and I believe that he is buried in the Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio. I never heard what happened to the step-son that shot him.
