Please let me know if I have any mistakes. Cathy: Mary Polly Pettingell dauther of Benjamin Pettingell (1730-1805) and Mehitable Kimball, Sister of Capt. James Pettengell who married Hannah True. Benjamin was the Brother of Samuel Penningell who married Elizabeth Cline (d.1790) Benamin (1730-1805) served for the defence of Rhode Island, in 1778 under Capt Ebenezer Wevster's Company and Col Moses Nichol's Regiment, that he also served at West Point. Also in 1780 was a member of Committee pf Safety of Salisbury. He was born at Haverhill Mass and died in Salisbury, N.H. (from Volume 14 the National Society of Daugthers of the American Revolution.) Samuel Pettingell (1732-1777) commanded a company of Tryson county militia and lost his life at the battle Oriskany.(from Volume 32 the National Society of Daugthers of the American Revolution.) Now Mary Polly Pettingell born Feb 5,1790 married William King Rice in New York. And later Wm and Mary moved to Portage County Ohio. Having 5 Children: 3 of whom are Lucinda Rice born Oct 29, 1825 in Ohio.. Also Nancy Beulah Rice and Mary E. Rice. 2 names unknowen to me. In December of 1839 Wm died near Ottawa Illinois, while enroute to Iowa. That following spring Mary continued to Iowa met and married Beckwith Cook. Jan 1,1840 Cedar County Iowa. (Dates here wrong: Wm died 1839? Mary went to Iowa Spring 1840 married Beckwith Jan 1, 1840?) Either Wm died in 1838, or Mary married 1841. Beckwith's first wife Sybil Olds was the mother of Beckwith's Sons Seley Mansfield Cook who married Nancy Beulah Rice and Joel B. Cook who married Mary E. Rice Daughters of Wm King Rice and Mary Pettingell/Rice/Cook. Wm. and Mary other daughter Lucinda married Linus Bushnell (my grandparents) in Iowa Oct 11.1842 (Linus is the son of Constant Bushnell and Rhoda Baldwin) In 1852 the family's came to Oregon. In the train were: Abram Cutlips, Henry B. Smith, Linus Bushnell, Alfred b. Collvers, Seley Mansfield Cook, Joel Cook, Horace Rice (Don't know if Horace is Son of Wm. and Mary) and there family's.
