The first burial in this cemetery was Mrs. Sarah J. Cowley in December of 1863. She was the daughter of Samuel & Betsey Green Olin, and the wife of Samuel Cowley. The Evergreen Cemetery Association was organized May 10, 1864 with W.S. Hill as the chairman and several residents of the town served as trustees. It is located on the southwest side on State Route 14, and two miles southeast of State Route 43. There are five sections: A,B,C,D,and E that were recorded thru 1994. Plans are to make this current thru 2008-9, at which the additional areas being filled up will present other sections. Please feel free to contact myself or the archives manager if your relative is included in the listing. It will help keep this updated. This begins SECTION A. Most of this section is read by plots. The plot listed in the row with the largest monument that centers it, may include up to 10 graves, and will have stones with have 1,2,or 3 rows. From the position of corners, space existed between these family plots and later, graves were added. These rows were read south to north, starting at the northeast corner. If dates are blank for births, only death dates were listed on the stones.
