Micle Enlisted in Ravenna, Portage County, Ohio, 3 days before his 17th. birthday (born October 13, 1844) Sent to Camp Chase, Ohio for basic training. In addition to many expeditions, operations and skirmishes, William B. Micle took part in the assault and capture of Fort Hindman, Arkansas Post, Battle of Port Gibson, Battle of Champion's Hill, the Siege of Vicksburg and the Siege of Jackson, Mississippi. In the 16 day retreat from Cumberland Gap, Kentucky to the Ohio River from September 17, 1862 to October 3, 1862, Private Micle recieved a stomach virus from drinking stagnant water along the way. This caused chronic diarrhea that lasted the remainder of his life and awarded him a disability pension from the government. William B. Micle was stationed at Duvalls Bluff, Arkansas on November 25, 1864 when the enlistment was over for the men of the 42nd. O.V.I., Company F. They were discharged from Camp Chase, Ohio Additional Comments: My Great-Great Grandfather William Benjamin Micle married Margaret Jane English in Shalersville, Ohio in 1869 and raised 7 children, working as a farmer and a teamster when his illness allowed. He lived in Aurora, Ohio from 1883 until his death on January 28, 1926 at age 81. He is buried at Aurora City Cemetery in Aouora, Portage County, Ohio.
