While there he drank a quantity of carbolic acid, supposed to be about an ounce and a half. He lived but a few minutes afterwards, never speaking after taking the fatal dose. Despondency over what seemed financial embarrassment is the alleged cause. Rimer was well connected, being a brother to Rev. William Rimer, well known Christian church minister. The funeral will be held from Vaughnsville Christian church, Friday, and interment will be made in the cemetery at that place."
