It is second-hand information, because I didn't see the actual Bible, and the location of the Bible is now lost, but, as any genealogist knows, you never know where you might find that one fact that puts the whole story together. This information was supplied by Jaunita "Weedie" Colburn, daughter of Minnie (Miller) (Tucker) Williams, and granddaughter of George and Henrietta Miller, who gave her permission for this posting. I have included sections of applicable e-mails below the information, to document how she obtained the information, and because they contain additional valuable information that future descendants will want to know. I particularly like the personal stories, because they, instead of they dry dates and facts, are what really allow our ancestors live on beyond their time. ******************************************************* From Juanita Colburn to Ralph Cokonougher on 14 January 2002: "Just thought of this..........somebody had to enter the dates of deaths for Amelia and Grover. The handwriting is different...........(I added my mother Minnie) Maybe the bible belonged to Grover. Grover's wife Pansy lived after him. She was in a nursing home when she passed and the house and furnishings were sold. Puzzle.......puzzle. Your grandmother was always very kind to me. When I was 10 years old my then stepfather took me and my half sister to your grandmother's house for her annual Easter Egg Hunt. (I was living with my father at that time) After that I was allowed to spend a week (some times 2 weeks )during the summer. I always looked forward to that. After I was 15 I never visited again in the summer but Amelia and I always kept in contact one way or another. On a comic note..........My husband and I flew over the farm one summer day and tried to find a place clear enough to land but gave up, waved our wings and went on." ***************************************************************** From Juanita Colburn to Ralph Cokonougher on January 13, 2002: "Hello cousin Ralph, Thank you for your inquiry concerning information taken from a family bible and the request for permission to pass this information on for posterity. . Unfortunately, the information requested concerning the Bible title page, date of publication etc. or even who owned the bible to my knowledge does not exist. Lola Miller Hahn who passed this information on to me is unfortunately afflicted with Alzheimer's or dementia and cannot supply us with further information. The written material that she gave me a number of years ago is hand written and appears to be a copy made expressly for passing on to other interested persons. I can only surmise that the bible was in the house hold of Lola's father, or your grandmother Amelia. I recall seeing a well worn bible in the first floor bedroom of Aunt Amelia's house when I was permitted as a child to visit them in the summer. The Bible laid on a table top (don't know what piece of furniture) in that bedroom. We have no way of proving the information other than my own recollection of conversation as a child and in my growing up years. You have my permission of course to send the information to any Archival site if the site will accept it without any means of proof. Where the bible with this information is located at this time is any body's guess." ****************************************************************** From Juanita Colburn to Ralph Cokonougher on 14 July 2001: "TAKEN FROM THE FAMILY BIBLE: hand written and given to me my Grover's daughter. Cokonougher, May I introduce myself? My name is Juanita and Amelia was one of my mother Minnie's sisters. And a dear aunt. IT is gratifying to know that even though our ancestors are no longer walking the planet they are not forgotten. If you do not already have a complete listing for the George C/Henrietta Amelia Steinmetz Miller family, I am privy to that information. My listing was taken from a family bible and includes the dates of birth and death for all except for one brother's death. Besides the parents there were nine children. Two boys and 7 girls. Weedie is a nickname given me by the family when one of the little children couldn't pronounce Juanita."
