Sollars Submitter: sollars@concentric.net Date: August 1, 1999 *********************************************************************** DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP OFFICERS Deerfield was organized as a separate township of Ross County, July 7,1804 from a portion of Wayne (now in Pickaway County), Union and Concord townships. The first entry in the record book of Deerfield Township is as follows: At an election held on Monday, the first day of April, 1805, at the home of Jared Davis for officers of the Township of Deerfield, the following were duly elected: SAMUEL LANGDALE, clerk, sworn before Chas. Cade, Esq. PETER JACKSON, trustee, swore himself contrary to law. WHITE BROWN, trustee, sworn before Peter Langdale, Esq. JACOB DAVIS, trustee, sworn before Peter Jackson. IGNATIUS SELLERS (SOLLARS), overseer, sworn before Peter Jackson. SIMON HORNBECK, overseer, sworn before Peter Jackson. JOHN TIMMONS, fence viewer, not sworn according to law. ABRAHAM ATER, fence viewer, not sworn accord. to law. JOHN SEWELL, listener, sworn before Charles Cade. JOHN BAKER, supervisor. JOHN CLARK, supervisor. RICHARD WILLIAMS, constable, failed to give bond according to law, of course his election is void. JOHN RIDDIN, constable. JOHN McLAIN, trustee, appointed April 19th in room of Peter Jackson (replaced Jackson). JAMES BLAIR, constable, appointed by trustees April 25th. MOSES COLVIN, fence viewer, app. by trustees Apr. 25,1805. MICHAEL ALKIRE, fence viewer, app. by trustees Apr. 25, 1805. NOTE: Ignatius Sellers (Sollars) and Simon Hornback are also recorded as "assessors" in an earlier history relating to this same information. JURORS The first jurors appointed in Deerfield Township were: Michael Alkire, John Timmons, and Isaac Cade, as grand jurors; Abraham Ater, Samuel Phebus, Steven Timmons, and Moses Colvin, as petit jurors.
