I'm not sure where the original copy is. Rahway 11th mo 8. 1831 Respected Friend Manuel Pearce At the request of thy Brother John Pearce, I write to inform thee, that he is in good Health, and still resides where he has been for a considerable time past. A short time since he was to see his friends in Shrewsbury, and found your Sister and Brothers as well as usual, but all are anxious to hear from thee and thy family, as they have had no account of you for a long time past. On the other side of this paper thee will find a copy of an as- signment or Quit claim given by thy Sister and two of thy Brothers to John for their right to what property may be obtained for the family from the property of I believe your Greatgrand Mother, who seems to have a right to a considerable estate in the City of New York now held by the corporation of the Trinity Church in that City, against whom a bill in Chancery is filed by some of the Heirs, they are urged others to join them in suit, and among others your family, and John is requested to act for them, and for that purpose the assignment is made, and if thee approves of it he wishes thee to have one prepared of the same tenor of theirs as now sent in thy own name, as if he does act he is desirous you should all agree. If the suit is prosecuted and anything is re- covered, Johns agreement is that the Brothers and Sister shall have the one half of what he gets, and wheter he gets anything or nothing the expenses to be altogether his own, and no cost to any of you. A part of the Heirs have appointed a Committee to act for them, one of the said Committee is your Kinsman Tyler Lafetra. they are desirous that John should come in and sign their agree- ment, this he has under consideration, and I believe wishes to hear from thee before he comes under engagement with them. I shall now conclude with repeating what thy Brother John says are the terms for which he undertakes - the expense to be altogether his own, and whatsoever he may obtain he takes the one half to himself and the other half to be equally divided among his Brothers and Sister - John is desirous to be affectionately remembered to you all and much desires that thee would let him hear from thee as soon as thee can after thee receives this - I am with desires for the Welfare of thy self and thy family - Thy friend Richard Hartshorne
