JAMES E. DAVIS James E. Davis, 83, of South Salem, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at his residence. Born Sept. 28, 1923 in Columbus, he was the son of Walter A. Davis and Faye M. (Hart) Davis. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Don) Woods of Chillicothe and Norma Jean (Lynn) Carter of South Salem; four grandchildren, Donna (Jeff) Johnson, Michael A. Goen Jr., Scott (Jennifer) Carter and Alan K. Carter; and five great-grandchildren, Megan Johnson, Heather Johnson, Levi Carter, Taylor Carter, and Montana Goen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie L. Davis, whom he married Feb. 14, 1943 in South Salem. She died earlier Monday, Oct. 13 at 7:14 p.m. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Judith Elaine Goen; two brothers, Robert E. Davis, and another in infancy; and both his parents. A former mayor of South Salem, Mr. Davis was a meat cutter at Kroger for 30 years and taught meat cutting at Laurel Oaks Vocational School. He was a member of the South Salem United Methodist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during World War II with the 492 Fighter Bomber Squadron. Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield.
