JAS. JOSEPH LONG PASSES AWAY. Jas. J. Long, one of the oldest residents of this community and familiarly known among his friends as Jimmie Joe, passed away at his home in Thrifton at a late hour on Monday. The deceased belonged to a family connection that has been identified with the history of Buckskin township since its earliest settlement. He was the son of Wm. Long and Jane Blaine Long and was born July 19, 1837, on the farm directly across the creek from Carter and Cameron’s mill. Mr. Long was of a retiring, kindly and complacent nature, faithful to his duties and honest in all his dealings. He was never married and has made his home for some years with the family of his brother, Mr. George A. Long. He leaves also one sister, Mrs. M. L. Matthews. One brother, Alex Long, lost his life in the Civil War. The hour for the funeral is set for Wednesday afternoon, December 29, at the residence of his nephew, O.F. Long. Additional Comments: What is left of Thrifton is now located at the junction of Thrifton Road and Rapid Forge Road in southwestern Buckskin Township of Ross County, Ohio, just east of Greenfield, Ohio, on the banks of Paint Creek.
