MERCER DIED SUDDENLY EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. Greenfield and community was shocked early Tuesday to hear of the death of Mrs. Mabel Francis Mercer, 40, wife of Earl H, Mercer which occurred suddenly at her home on Fourth street about 7 o’clock Tuesday morning. A cerebral hemorrhage was given as the cause of death. Mrs. Mercer retired Monday night, and made no mention of being ill. About 4:30 a member of the family found her lying on the floor in her room where she apparently had fallen when stricken. Drs. J.A. Mercer and J.B. Glenn were summoned but found her beyond medical aid. Mrs. Mercer was born in Ross county, April 24, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Bennett. On November 24, 1912, she was married to Earl H. Mercer, and has resided since that time in Greenfield. Mr. Mercer is employed at the Greenfield Furniture Co. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her, and her sudden passing brought sorrow to a wide circle of friends. Surviving are her husband, Earl H.; three daughters, Mrs. Virginia Nysewander, Blanchester, Mrs. Wynona Smith, and little Patricia Ann Mercer, and two young sons, Earl Raymond and Leroy. A son and daughter preceded her in death. Besides her parents who reside in South Salem, she is survived by two sisters, Miss Gladys Bennett who resides at her parents home in South Salem, and Mrs. Austin Crusie, Lyndon, and one brother, Max, of South Salem. A sister, Margaret Bee, preceded her in death about 16 years ago. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 2 o’clock from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Linden R. Wilson officiating. Interment in the Greenfield cemetery by Murray’s. Pallbearers will be Austin Crusie, Homer Hudson, Ferris Mercer, Max Bennett, Everett Nysewander, and Harold Smith. Also from the same newspaper clipping: RAINSBORO MAN HURT IN MILL ACCIDENT. RAINSBORO - John Horace Barrett was painfully injured Monday morning while assisting with some grinding at the mill. His hand became entangled in the cogs of some of the machinery, mashing and mangling the fingers. Floyd Mercer and Edgar Harrington took him to Hillsboro where Dr. Larkin took care of the injury. He lost the second finger of the left hand, but hopes to save the other.
