Cokonougher, 78, of 340 Mirabeau St., Greenfield, died in University Hospital, Columbus, on Tuesday, March 19, 1996. He was born on March 12, 1918 in Ross County to Harvey J. and Dolla M. Smith Cokonougher. Mr. Cokonougher was a retired steel worker at Armco and a farmer. He was preceded in death by three sons, James J., on Dec. 12, 1988, John on Aug. 9, 1987 and Ronald Cokonougher on Sept. 16, 1944 and a sister, Mary Jane Cokonougher, in 1924. He is survived by his wife, Dott M. Nevin Cokonougher, whom he married Oct. 19, 1940; son, Larry D. Cokonougher of Greenfield; daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Carol A.) Orner of Coppell, Texas, Mrs. Rod (Susan) Hiestand of Mason, Ohio, Mrs. Wyla (Jean) Goddard Jr., of Greenfield and Joellen Cokonougher of Greenfield; sisters Eva L. Lyle of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Dean (Ethel Mae) Haines of East Monroe, Ohio, Mrs. William (Genevieve) Van Allen of Columbus and Mrs. Forrest (Isabelle) Post of Greenfield and a brother, Herman F. "Tom" Cokonougher of Frankfort. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 1996 in Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield, with the Rev. Terry Washburn officiating and burial in South Salem Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, 4 - 8 p.m." Additional Comments: The grandparents of Jay Cokonougher were Zachariah and Mary (Wisecup) Cokonougher, and Frank and Lucinda (Davis) Smith.
