Mowbray James Arlo Mowbray, 88, of Bainbridge, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at his residence, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1915, the son of the late James Woodson and Lillie Belle Edwards Mowbray. On Aug. 10, 1940 at South Salem, he married his wife of 63 years, the former Evelyn Jane Cooper, who survives. In 1979, Arlo retired from Mead Corporation, where he worked as a pressman in the print shop for 32 years. He was a dedicated Christian, serving as first elder and Sunday school teacher for many, many years at Fruit Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was a licensed ham radio operator, serving Ross County during emergency disasters. He was a member of the Morning Amateur Radio Group, call letters K8ZWZ. Arlo made many friends all over the world, giving pleasure to all with his cheerful voice and good humor. He will be missed by countless friends and family. Also surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Mowbray Glandon Peplow; foster son, E. Richard (Cindy) Borland, all of Frankfort; grandchildren, Jane Marie Hollon and James Michael Glandon; foster grandchildren, Ryan Dale (Heather) Borland and Wendi Allison (Garrett) Parker; great grandchildren, Heather (Dwayne) Walker, Heidi Hollon, Nic Glandon; foster great-grandchild, Colbi Grace Borland; great-great-grandchildren, Alex Alyssa and Andrew Walker and Lester Dale Corcoran. Arlo was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Mowbray, Kathryn Bumgarner and Ellen Loy; and brother, Ernest Mowbray. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 in the Ebright Funeral home, Frankfort, with the Rev. Jack Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions are suggested to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
