                              WARREN W. STAATS.
         Warren W. Staats, 80, of South Salem, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at 
Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
         Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Ross County, he was the son of William Staats 
and Lucetta Storts.
         He served in the U. S. Navy and worked at General Motors.
         He is survived by his wife, Bertha Good Staats, whom he married March 
29, 1974; two daughters, Joy Centers of Lake Orion, Mich. and Sandra McLemore 
of Huber Heights; four stepchildren, Leroy Storts of Greenfield, Janet Monroe 
of Washington Court House, Carolyn Miller of Chillicothe, and Maurice Storts 
Jr. of Clarksburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 17 step 
grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine 
Schiller of Greenfield; and two brothers, Kenneth Staats of Bainbridge and 
Dallas Staats of Tempe, Ariz.
         He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
         Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, at 2 p.m., at 
Murray Funeral Home, Greenfield.  The Rev. Paul Goshom will officiate.  Burial 
will follow at the South Salem Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded 
by the Highland County VFW.
        Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
