Jake was the husband of my mother's sister, Martha Hester. I took this picture on 8 June 2003. Uncle Jake was the person who taught me the basics of plumbing. I bought a house without indoor plumbing in 1973, and Jake volunteered to help me install plumbing so that my family and I could live in our new home. While he was installing the plumbing, Jake used the opportunity to teach me as much about plumbing as he could. His efforts were not wasted. I used the knowledge that he gave me to learn more about plumbing, and to later repair and install many more plumbing systems of my own. Jake believed in not only helping others, but also in helping them to help themselves.
