The document reads: page "564 PHILADELPHIA COUNTY, sct. Be it Remembered, That on the Second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight personally appeared Wm. Steinmetz before me, Clerk of the Court of Quarter Sessions of the Peace, in and for the said County, who upon his solemn oath did depose and say, that he is a native of Prussia now residing in the City of Philadelphia, aged twenty seven years or thereabouts, and that it is bona fide his intention to become a Citizen of the United States, and to renounce for ever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to the King of Prussia of whom he is now a subject." The signature of the clerk is illegible and unreadable. Additional Comments: John William Steinmetz was born 12 February 1813 in Saxony, Germany (Prussia); and died 05 January 1865 in Columbus, Ohio. He married Frederieka Griden (Geiger?) in Germany. She was the daughter of Christ Griden. John and Fredericka were my great-great-great grandparents. Augusta Steinmetz, born 04 July 1839; died 22 August 1874 in Ohio. iii. Charles Steinmetz, born 02 April 1844; died 29 August 1886. iv.
