	   This photo shows Nancy Hixson Miller, the widowed wife of Thomas G. 
Miller, and her adult children.  The family lived in Ross County, Ohio.  The 
children scattered throughout Ohio and Indiana in later years.  The photo 
looks like it was taken in the early 1880s.  I received this picture from 
Raymond E. Means of Jonesville, Michigan.  He is a descendant of Elsie Miller, 
who is in the picture.  I, myself, am a descendant of George C. Miller, his 
daughter Amelia Irene Miller Cokonougher, and his grandson Howard 
William “Bill” Cokonougher.  I have more about the Millers and my lineage in 
my book “The Genealogy of The Family of Ralph W. Cokonougher” (2009), 
available at www.amazon.com and www.lulu.com. 
	  The following is a summary of Nancy Hixson Miller’s family from my 
computer family tree program:
	  Thomas Garland Miller was born 17 May 1826 in Ohio and died 12 
August 1869.  He married (1) Nancy Agnes Hixson on 01 June 1847 in Ross 
County, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Daniel Hixson and Rebecca DeVoss.  
	   Daniel Hixson was one of the first farmers to settle in Ohio.  He 
built a stone house that he called the “Mansion” near South Salem, Ohio.  The 
house still stands, and is in use today.  Daniel was a descendant of colonial 
American plantation owners and American Revolutionary War veterans.  He 
himself was a veteran of the War of 1812.  Rebecca DeVoss came from a long 
line of stone masons and farmers.
	
The children of Thomas Miller and Nancy Hixson are:
		i.	Almira S. Miller, born 27 August 1848.
		ii.	Erastus Steven C. "Ras" Miller, born 17 September 1852 
in Ohio; died 04 April 1929; married (1) ? Neagley; married (2) ? Bradley; 
married (3) Flora E. Osborne; married (4) Rahamah J. Williams 30 December 1874 
in Auglaize County, Ohio; married (5) Effie E. Powell 07 November 1892 in Ross 
County, Ohio.
		iii.	Rebecca A. Miller, born 20 May 1854 in Ohio; married 
Henry Adams 02 October 1876 in Ross County, Ohio.
		iv.	Nancy Sadie Miller, born 27 August 1856 in Buckskin 
Twp., Ross County, Ohio; died 27 September 1922 in Springfield, Clark County, 
Ohio; married Cornelius P. "Neal" Whitlatch 1879.
		v.	Thomas D. Miller, born 11 May 1858 in Ohio; died 1896; 
married Alice Poole.
		vi.	Samuel James (Jim) Miller, born 08 October 1859 in 
Ohio; married Alice Smart.
		vii.	Elsie Sophia Miller, born Abt. 20 January 1862 in Ross 
County, Ohio; died 01 December 1931 in Formoso, Jewell County, Kansas; married 
(1) Richard Means Bet. 1881 - 1882 in Ross County, Ohio; married (2) John A. 
Booth Bef. 1893 in Kansas; married (3) Edward Louis Jennings 28 July 1896 in 
Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas.
		viii.	George C. Miller, born 26 July 1864; died 23 April 
1908 in Ross County, Ohio; married Henrietta Emelia Steinmetz 05 September 
1887 in Ross County, Ohio.
		ix.	Joseph Albert Miller, born 19 February 1867 in Ohio; 
married Julia Francis (Fannie) Smart.
		x.	Alice Oretta Miller, born 24 October 1869 in Ohio; 
died 23 April 1936 in Ross County, Ohio; married George Freeland Hollar 16 May 
1886 in Ross County, Ohio.
