The inscription reads, "John F. Benner. Member of Co. H" (or M), "89th Reg. O.V.I. Died Dec. 18, 1874" (or 1). "Aged 28 Yr. 1 mo. 1 day. Though thou hast called me to resign, What most I prised - it neer was mine. I have but yielded what was thine 'thy will be done!' Though dark my path and sad my lot, Let me be still and mummer not, And ever pray, as thou hast taught, 'thy will be done'. This grave is marked by a G.A.R. Civil War veteran's marker.
