Carey, M.D. Vascular & General Surgery. 212 East New York Ave. DeLand, Florida 32720 December 29, 1975 Mrs. Howard Cokonougher Route 1 Bainbridge, Ohio 45612 Dear Mrs. Cokonougher: In reply to your letter of December 15, the bill that your received from my office was not for a post mortum examination performed on the late Mr. Harold Hester. The bill was for my services rendered and represents actually many more hours than the 2 stated in a vigorous and time consuming attempt to save his life. Unfortunately he expired from overwhelming infection. The post mortum examination was ordered because of Mr. Hester's unusual demise, which was so rapid and fulminant, after he was admitted to the hospital. I certainly understand your financial circumstances and cannot fault you with the comments that you made in your correspondence; however, may I suggest that skilled professional help costs dearly these days and one would only have to take his car to a mechanic, a color TV to a repair man or invite a plumber to his house to realize how true this fact is. I personally have never refused medical assistance to anyone in need, regardless of their financial circumstances. I once again apologize for the inconvenience my bill has caused you. I wish you and your family to know that I did everything possible to save Mr. Hester's life, but to no avail. Sincerely, Signed/ James P. Carey, M.D. JPC/ja" File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/oh/ross/vitals/deaths/hester87ndt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/ohfiles/ File size: 5.2 Kb
