L. Spayde, which was burned early Wednesday morning, was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Spayde together with the land opposite in 1858, and they resided there until within a year of Mr. Spayde’s death which occurred in 1900. This was the happy childhood home of six children, all of whom are still living, being Mesdames C. Carr, Ed Smith, and A. E. Decker , of Fremont; Mrs. W. Gilson, of Lorain, Mrs. W. Beck and O. A. Spayde, of Marion, Ind. Mr. Spayde was one of the leading men in the building of the Ballville church, for which he donated land, time and money.
