State of Ohio, County of Sandusky On the date hereinafter mentioned, personally appeared before me Judge of the Probate Court, a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Andrew Nuhfer, resident of the town of Woodville, County of Sandusky, State of Ohio, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Andrew Nuhfer who was Enrolled on the 12 Day of October, 1861 and served in Company D of the 72 Regiment of O.V.I. commanded by Colonel Buckland and was discharged at Columbus Ohio on the fifteenth day of April, 1865; that his personal description is as follows: Age 60 years; height five feet 6 1/2 inches; complexion, dark; hair gray; eyes, hazel. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and in the line of his duty at Shiloh in the State of Tennessee, on or about the 6 day of April 1862, he while engaged in action at the Battle of Shiloh Tenn was wounded in the leg by a gunshot or minnie ball. While commanding my company was taken prisoner at Mississippi June 11th 1864 and was held prisoner at Macon until March 1865. That he was treated in hospitals as follows: at Camp Hospital at Shiloh and Cinci at the latter part of April and afterwards sent home. That he has not been employed in the military or naval service otherwise than as stated above. That since leaving the service this applicant has resided in Woodville, Sandusky Co, Ohio and remains here ever since up to the ?? date June 18, 1880. That prior to his entry into the service above named he was a man of good, sound physical health, being when enrolled a ablebodied man. That he is now greatly disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor by reason of his injuries, above described, received in the service of the United States; and he therefore makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the invalid pension roll of the United States. Co. D, 72 Regiment of Ohio Vols, to date Oct 12, 1861, to serve 3 years and as Captain Dec 12, 1861. Roll Jany and Feby 1862 present. March and April 1862 wounded at Shiloh, April 6/62, and sent home on furlough. Company was in action said place and date and Casualty List shows him wounded there and then. June 30, 1862, absent wounded. Company and Regimental Record Books, incomplete, furnish no evidence of alleged wound. No regimental hospital records prior to July 1863 or Medical Certificate in his case on file. Subsequent rolls to Aug 31, 1863 present. Roll May and June 1864, Prisoner of War since June 11/64, when regiment was in action and borne as absent prisoner of war. Prisoner of War records show him captured at Ripley, Miss. June 11/64, confined at Camp Asylum, Columbia S.C. date not given. Paroled at N.E. Ferry, N.C. March 1/65 reported at Camp Parole, Md March 5/65 where he is reported as in Officer's Hospital, date or cause not given; granted leave of absence March 12/65 for 30 days to report to Camp Chase, Ohio. No other evidence of medical treatment or disability in said records. He was honorably discharged to date May 15/65 under G.O. 82 series 1865 from this office.
