He was to son of Mr. and Mrs. Leopold Lehmann and came to America with his parents in the year 1933 Lehmann, who had gone to Cincinnati, Ohio to live, came and took two sisters with him to Lower Sandusky and practiced his profession which was that of a Physician, and leave the other brothers and sisters to live alone in the forest." "Leodegar soon became the support of the entire family, working on the canals (Erie Canal) and where ever he could get work to earn money to buy corn and clothing for the family. For the many years he and his father, brothers and sisters experienced such hardships as were incident only to early Pioneer life. While still a young man he first saw his future wife riding by on horseback, either going after corn meal or going home with it. When the family first moved to Scott township the nearest Catholic Church was at Tiffin, Ohio. Harmon, the oldest brother sent Leodegar there and paid his board and had him make his first communion. It was 20 miles to Tiffin and there was no road from where he lived to that place and afterwards Leodegar picked out a way through the forest and walked to a church there. He blazed the trees along the way so he would not get lost." "He was married 9 November 1851 to Miss Barbara Staub, who survives him. To this union there were born eleven children, Viz: Mrs. Peter (Mary) Bullinger, Adam Lehmann, Mrs. John (Margaret) Miller, Andrew Lehmann, Mrs. Simon (Katherine) Goodman, John J Lehmann, of Fremont, Mrs. Andrew (Sarah) Bach of Toledo, Franklin Lehmann, William E Lehmann, Mrs. David (Inez) Morrison, Henry Lehmann whom are still living. In the family there are 42 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Mr. Lehmann was a devout Christian and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Millersville from which place he was buried April 3 rd., Father Eugster of Millersville was the Celebrant of the Requiem Mass; Father Weber of Fostoria, Deacon; Father Wendling of Gibsonburg, Sub- Decon, and Father Eugster, and a special sermon was delivered by Father Deneaf. Messrs. William A Gabel, John Setzler, Charles Ochs and Dora Fuchs, of Fremont, Quartet assisted the choir. Six sons of the deceased were pallbearers. Mr. Lehmann took great pains to see that his children were brought up as good Citizens and Christians; teaching them the Christian doctrine himself while there were young and all during his lifetime until his death he never failed to remind them in almost every conversation, of the importance of being a good citizen and leading a Christian life. Although living seven miles from the church at Millersville, he and his family could be seen going to church every Sunday no matter how cold or how bad the weather. Mr. Lehmann was a good citizen, a kind father and a loving husband. He will be missed by all who knew him and most especially by his own family to whom he was so kind and for whom he did so much during his life."
