M. Gettins Funeral servies will be held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Fiser Funeral Home for Vessey Marquis Gettins, who passed away at Memorial Hospital, Fremont Tuesday morning at 11:35. The Rev. Perry S. Neldon of First Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be made in McPherson cemetery with Robert Crable, a nephew, Laurel Gettins, John Richards, Ralph Trump, Don Gisel and Frank Gibson as pall bearers. A son of Jane L. Harris and Edwin T. Gettins, Mr. Gettins was born in Clyde December 27, 1866 and received his education in the Clyde schools. He was widely known for his building ability having built schools, colleges and churches in various parts of Ohio and southern Michigan. Some of the more outstanding buildings were the High School and Childrens home in Defiance, a church in Oak Harbor, a school in Stryker, O. and one in Tecumseh, Mich. the Masonic home and high school in Willard and many others. He retired in 1923. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. E. M. Smith, Mrs. H. C. Lambert, Mrs. Don Gisel, and one son George D. Gettins, all of Toledo, also by three sisters, Louise Gettins, Mary Gettins, and Mrs. J. J. Kenninger all of Toledo, and by three brothers, Laurel of Cleveland, Harry and Fred of California. Mr. Gettins had been in ill health a number of years.
