Mr. Shrenk was born and reared in Dauphin County, Penn. He "served his time" in the office of the Harrisburg Telegraph In 1835, moved to Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio and established the Bucyrus Democrat, and continued its publication for six years. He then moved to Kenton, Hardin County, where he commenced and for two years published the Hardin Intelligencer. From there, he removed to Upper Sandusky and established a paper which he continued for about one year. In December, 1845, he came to Lower Sandusky, now Fremont, and established the The Lower Sandusky Telegraph, which paper he published until the Spring of 1849, when he was compelled on account of ill health to relinquish the business. As an editor, he was firm and fearless, declaring unhesitatingly what he thought to be right. His last sickness was long and severe, confining him to his bed for nearly four months. A wife and four children mourn his death. A little Family History: John Shrenk born 3 AUG 1812 to Martin Shrenk and mother Anna Machen.
