Arthur Mathis, 97 The Rev. Arthur Mathis, 97, of Rubyville, died Tuesday, October 15, 2002, at Greenbriar Convalescent Center in Wheelersburg. He was born February 18, 1905, in Logan, WV., the son of the late Marion and Scena Milam Mathis. He was a minister for many years at several local churches, attended Rubyville Community church, and was a retired crane operator. Surviving are one son, Marion "Duke" Mathis of Troy; six daughters, Birdie Ruth White of Portsmouth, Ramona Darlene Braden of Rubyville, Donna Mathis of Piqua, Clara Mathis of Chicago, Brenda K. Coppock of Troy, Veronica Payne of Troy; two sisters, Garnet Murphy of Barboursville, Emma Perry of Inez, Ky,; 38 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella Mathis, second wife, Alice Mathis; sons, Jim, Donald, Charles, Arthur and David Mathis; daughter Arthella Mathis; brothers Clifton, Luther, Chester and Jay Mathis; and one sister Birdie Short. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, October 18, 2002 at the Rubyville Community Church in Rubyville, with the Rev. Calvin Ray Evans and the Rev. Jason Blevins officiating, with interment at Wheelersburg Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 P.M. at the D. W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston, and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church.
