A native of Wayne County, WV., and retired after 49 years as inspector at Empire-Detroit Steel, he was preceded in death by his firt wife, Goldie Ruth Rolfe Mathis. Surviving are his wife, Maude Justice Mathis; six sons, Paul Raymond of St Petersburg, FL., James Franklin of Phoenix, AZ., Lonnie Edward of Chicago, IL., Elbie of New Boston, Roger Lee of Marion, OH., and Thomas of Galion, OH.; nine daughters, Leeta Mathis, Nora Kathleen Justice and Lana Rebecca Carr, all of New Boston, Mary Alice Sanford and Patricia Louise Rowe, both of Franklin Furnace, OH., Norma Snyder of Saratoga, CA., Carolyn Matney of Troy, OH., Loretta King of Clarksburg, OH., and Bonnie Sue Thomas of Portsmouth; a brother, Arthur of Rubyville; three sisters, Birdie Short of Kenova, WV., Emma Perry of Inez, KY., and Garnet Murphy of Barboursville, WV.; 45 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services are planned at 2 P.M. Saturday at Pennington-Cox Funeral Home, with Pastor Marion White officiating, and burial in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friend may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 P.M. tonight, from 10 A.M. till noon and 4 to 9 P.M. Friday, and from noon until the time of services Saturday.
