At 8 p.m. all were invited to the spacious dining room, where the table, groaning under its load of goodly wians that only the farmers' wives know how to prepare, was awaiting them. Not louder did the table groan before supper tham Alia Wilkins and Park Baker groaned after supper. They say they are always glad when a birthday party is in the neighborhood, but oh! their poor stomachs. After Wilknis and Baker had grown quiet, the evening was spent in games and social chat, and at a late hour all departed wishing Mr. Bennet many more happy birthdays.
