"Strangler" Lewis and "Guido"

I Lewis and his hero dog, "Guido" who was probably poisoned 
by mischievous boys yesterday.
     "Guido," the $2000 police dog and constant companion of Ed "Strangler" 
Lewis, was probably fatally poisoned yesterday morning by mischievous boys 
at the home, "Linda Vista."
The dog is one of the most valuable in the country and his won numerous 
decorations at kennel shows.  According to the statement of Dr. Ada Scott 
Morton, "Guido" is the owner of a medal conferred upon him by the king of 
Italy in reward for bravery upon the battlefields of France.  She states 
that his reputation at the time he was purchased by Lewis in New York 
shortly after the signing of the (?) was as great as time of any hero 
returning upon the war.  many American soldiers endeavored to purchase 
him and it was only after sever (?) and in price of $2000 that Lewis was 
to announce himself the owner.
   San Jose is familiar with the figures of the ex-champion heavy-weight 
wrestler and his favorite dog.  The two have been seen responding together 
in the yard of their beautiful home.  A message wired from him in New York 
yesterday requested that no expense be spared to save the dog's life.
     It is thought that neighborhood boys with malicious intent either fed 
or threw into the yard food containing strychnine.  Dr. W. D. Gordon was 
summoned and at a late hour last night could not state definitely whether 
or not he will be able to save the dog's life.
