Page 006 Strong for the Letter "E" Editor Daily News: As exchange says that someone has advanced the opinion that the letter "E" is the most unfortunate letter in the English alphabet because it is always out of cash, forever in debt, never out of danger and in hell all the time. For some reason he overlooked the good fortune of the little letter "e," so attention is called to the fact that "e" is never in war and always in peace. It is the beginning of existence, the commencement of case and the ending of trouble. Without it there would be no bread, no lawyer, no success or no life and no heaven. It is the center of honesty, makes love perfect, and without it there would be no editors, devil or Never.--Old Faithful. * * * * Hits Beatings by Dry Agents Editor Daily News: The high-handed methods employed by some of these prohibition agents should be stopped. This beating people up in raids is un-American and is entitled to the severest censure. G. H. Wheeler, Rutier chief aide, has figured in more than one episode of this kind. If I remember correctly, he was in some jam down in Los Angeles on a charge of striking a woman during a raid. Now it appears his agents beat and kicked a man when he was down. What kind of a law is this that we are asked to uphold? The police would not be able to get away with half of the rough stuff that this Wheeler and his men employ. As for Rutier, he is a kindly old sole who probably does not know what is going on. --An American Citizen
