Page007 Obituary of John E. Bogart John E. Bogart, oldest son of Isaac and Jane Bogart, for the past 27 years a resident of Lima, Ohio, passed away at his late home on the 22nd of April, 1920 at the age of 50 years, 5 months, and 13 days. He was born at Columbus Grove on the 9th of November, 1869, where he had many friends who through the years have alwas always glad to greet him. He possessed in large measure the ability to make and keep friends, and many indeed were those who sympathized with him in his last illness. About 27 years ago he entered the employ of the railroad company, formerly the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton R.R. Co., and for years was an engineer on this road, passing almost daily through the town in the neighborhood of which he grew to you manhood. He was married on the fourth of May a number of years, ago, to Miss Addie Copus, who survives him. To them were born one son, Donovan, now grown to young manhood. About a year ago sickness laid hold of him, and since that time he was not able to follow his occupation. Last November he was compelled to go to bed and from that time onward he slowly failed in strength. Those who visited him during this time found him patient and courteous, often hopeful, though toward the last he was convinced that he would never recover. Last February he asked for Rev. R. W. Kohr to visit him and converse with him on the subject of his future and some of his brothers and he was baptized, and shortly after received into the fellowship of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Bogart had been for a number of years a member of Rufus Putnam Lodge No. 364 F. & A. M. and at his request the Masonic Order participated in his funeral services. He also belonged to the Brotherhood of the Locomotive Engineers and the Royal Order of Moose. With the exception of one brother who died 17 years ago, he was the first of a large family to depart this life. He is survived by his father and mother, Isaac and Jane Bogart, by five brothers and three sister as follows, David F. and Paul Bogart, of Lima, Mrs. G. H. Hartman and Mrs. C. P. Clevenger, also of Lima, Miss Ola Bogart, Mark, Lawrence and Harry Bogart, of Columbus Grove. Besides the members of the immediate family there is a large connection throughout the community, the Bogart family being one of the oldest in the neighborhood. Our friend fought his fight with faith and courage, and in the hour of his own extremity was ever mindful of those about him. He has left behind him kindly and faithful feelings and grateful memories in many hearts. The funeral services were held in the home in Lima by Rev. R. W. Kohr and by the Masonic Order, and the body laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery.
