Hill, greatly beloved retired U.B. minister, died at his home here Tuesday morning at 1:15 after an extended illness. The Rev. Mr. Hill was born at Braloune Lees, England, Nov. 8, 1841, came from England to Clyde when he was nineteen years old, entered the ministry of the United Brethren church in the Centennial year, 1876, and has since then been a faithful minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served ten charges as pastor, was five years presiding elder, and for five years financial agent of the U.B, academy at Fostoria. Clyde has been his home ever since coming from England, except for such time as he lived on the charges which he served as pastor and since he retired from the active work of the ministry. He served two terms as mayor of Clyde, making an excellent village executive. With his wide range of acquaintance and with the high esteem in which he was held, "Brother Hill," as he was called by nearly everyone, was frequently called upon to officiate at funerals, and as long as his health permitted, always responded to such calls, no matter what the weather or how bad the roads, even going out in enfeebled health during the extremist of the cold winter of 1917-1918. He was twice married, but his first wife lived only a short time, and he was married forty years ago to Alice A. Newkirk, who had been his companion during most of his ministry, and who survives him. He also leaves a daughter Mrs. D. C. Beck, and a son, Walter D. Hill, of Friedly & Hill, both of Clyde. Fraternally he was an Odd Fellow and a member of the Royal Arcanum. Beloved and honored in and out of the church, the death of Rev. J. E. Hill brings more than ordinary grief to great numbers of his loyal friends. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church, Rev. J. H. Arnold, of Shelby, will officiate, assisted by others. Interments in McPherson cememtery The funeral of Mrs. Emmett Mason, mention of whose death was made in Monday's paper, will occur Wednesday at 3 p.m. at her late home on south Main street, Rev. E. A. Miller officiating. Interment in McPherson cemetery. Mrs. Mason leaves besides her husband two little girls. She was a woman who was highly regarded by those who knew her, was a member of the Eastern Star and had many friends. ----
