The Paper Rags Man There's a queer ol' man comes by our farm In a wogon 'at's shaky an' squeaky, A drivin' a horse that is lame an' blind, With a harness all patched an' creaky. An' always I hear him away down the road Just before they are in sight, The squeak of the wheels an' the ol' man's voice A-callin' with all his might: "Per-per-r-rex! Pep-per-r-r-rex! Any ol' iron or pep-per-r-r-rex!" An' one day I runned right out in the road When the' queer ol' man came by, An' I called just as loud as ever I could: "Hi! Mister ol' Man, Hi! What have you got in your big brown bags, That you call an' call that way?" An' the ol' man waved his whip at me, An' he smiled an' I heard him say: "Pep-per-r-r-rex! Pep-per-r-r-rex! Aint' you got yet no pep-per-r-r-rex?" An' sometimes my muvver runs out an' calls, Just stops him an' tells him to wait. An' he helps her carry out bundles an' bags, An' he weighs 'em out by the gate. Nen he counts out pennies in muvver's hand An' puts the bags on his load, An' gid-aps his horse an' drives away quick A-yellin' 'way down the road: "Pep-per-r-r-rex! Pep-per-r-r-rex! Any ol' iron or pep-per-r-r-rex!" An' wunst I went read close an' peeked When the man was weighin' a bag, But all I saw in it was Daddy's ol' shirt, The one with stripes like a flag, An' yellow dress that muvver had once An' my stockin's too short in the legs, But I didn't see, tho I peeked real hard, Any ol' pep-per-r-r-rex!. Pep-per-r-r-rex! Pep-per-r-rex! Not any ol' pep-per-r-r-rex! ----
