Fremont News "You bet it is" said one of the young lads when asked Friday night if they had fixed the long distance telephone in the lobby of the Fremont Hotel. The lads had just cmerged from the booth, as M. R. Pence, Ohio distributor for the Clydesdale Motor Car company, was entering the booth. Mr. Pence propounded the question, believing the men were telephone employees. Pence put in his long distance call, and when he got his party, central told him to drop a dime in the slot. It was then that the discovery was made, that the cash box attached to the phone was missing. It dawned upon Mr. Pence that instead of being employees of the telephone company, the fellows had stolen the money box, the contentsd of which is estimated all the way from $35.00 to $60.00 as it had not been emptied for several days. Mr. Pence notified Night Clerk Rawlings who in turn informed Landlord Lins. The police were furnished a description of the men by mr. Pence. The automobile salesman said to the News Saturday morning that he had arrived on the 6:40 Lake Shore Electric limited and entered the hotel to get his supper. He rushed to the booth to put in several calls, and noticed the fellows at work in the booth. Believing them to be employees of the telephone company, he waited until they completed their work, then put in the call. The telephone booth is located close to the entrance to the dining room, and many people passed it while the men worked. A number were waiting to put in long distance calls, but the young fellows worked indifferent and without fear of detection. Their coolness fooled Pence and others. After they removed the cash box one of the lads wearing an overcoat placed the box under his arm and accompanied by the other walked out of the lobby through the main entrance. Fifteen minutes later the robbery was discovered. ----
