If the Volstead act had not been enacted into the constitution of the United States the man who was driving an automobile down the street early yesterday morning might have thought he had been drinking too much. However, as it was he rubbed his eyes two or three times, and yet was not convinced. He turned the automobile to the sidewalk and parked. Then he approached like an Indian stalking a steer. He still saw the same thing he had first seen. It did not seem a harmful creature, so he went nearer. Then it approached with an amicable look to its face. The autoist decided he would meet the animal half way. He did. Then he become friends. He walked closer and there, in the flesh, was what he had seen. Yet he pinched himself to see if he was awake. Just then another auto came by. He hailed it: "Say, do you see what I see?" he asked. The other driver did. "Where did it come from," asked the first observer. Then both began to wonder. Finally the new comer solved the mystery. The creature had loosed her halter and wandered from the Wortham show grounds at South First and Second streets. She is "Portland," the five-legged cow in the queer animal show. The night watchman was called and took the cow back. Portland is a pet around the shows. Last night another throng attended the shows, which are presenting the Moose spring carnival here. ----
