George Washington had an obituary 18 Aug 1914 Tiffin, Seneca Co., OH "DROWNS IN LAKE - George W. Adelsperger, a Former Tiffin Resident, Meets Death in Indiana -- George Adelsperger received a telegram this morning conveying the sad news that his father, George W. Adelsperger, a former resident of this city, was drowned Monday. No details of the unfortunate affair were given but Mr. Adelperger is of the opinion that the drowning occurred at Fish Lake, Ind. Where his father has been enjoying vacation. The deceased was a resident of South Bend, Indiana. The deceased was born in Fort Seneca and resided in this city for many years. In 1878 he removed to South Bend where he since made his home. Seven daughters and three sons survive him. Mrs. August Swabley, of this city, and Mrs. William Edwards, of near Fort Seneca, were sisters of the deceased" (Daily Tribune.). George Washington also had an obituary 19 Aug 1914 South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN "MAN DROWNS WHEN ROW BOAT UPSETS -- G. W. ADELSPERGER VICTIM OF BARREN LAKE ACCIDENT.-- Attempts to Swim Ashore, But Sinks, Exhausted - Body Recoverred by Niles Police. George W. Adelsperger, 80 East Colfax, was drowned this morning at 5 o'clock at Barren lake when the boat in which he and E. R. Davies, 513 Corby street, were fishing, upset. Mr. Adelsperger was standing in the back of the boat to cast a weight anchor and as the boat was thus heavily tipped it ran onto a blind stake which upset it. He and Davies started to swim to the bank, but when Davies reached safety and looked back for his friend, Adelsperger had sunk from sight. The two men had been spending a few days at the cottage owned by Dr. Davies on the lake. The deceased was 70 years of age last November, having been born Nov. 1, 1843. He has lived in South Bend since 1880, when he came here from Tiffin, O. He was a millwright by trade, have been employed at the Birdsell Manufacturing company. He is a civil war veteran, and a member of the G. A. R., having belonged to Auten post No. 87. He was married in 1868 to Josephine Kintz who survives him. He is also survived by 10 children as follows; Mrs. William Brennan, Mrs. Louis Coquillard, Mrs. Max Konzen, Charles and Miss Lucy Adelsperger, all of South Bend, Peter Adelsperger and Mrs. John Giede of Chicago, Miss Lillian Adelsperger of Kalamazoo, George Adelsperger of Kalamazoo, George Adelsperger of Tiffin, O., and Mrs. Elmer Metran of Dowagiac, Mich. The Niles police department was notified of the accident this morning and recovered the body in an hour after the drowning occured. The body was brought to South Bend at noon to-day. Adelsperger, 807 East Colfax Avenue, will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rev. P. J. Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery" (South Bend Trib, newspaper item, page 5 col 4.).
