When he was about one year old his father moved to Shelby County. At 10 years old his father sent him to Xenia to his grandmother, to give him a chance to go to school. He spent some time there going to school, to old Mr. Steel, after which he returned to his father in Shelby County, and remained there until his death. He was united in marriage to Sarah E. STRATTON in the year 1844. There were born to them by this union 11 children, 8 of whom are still living. Four sons and Four daughters, all with one exception, Charles, who is living in the far West, attended the funeral. In the year 1867 his wife died, and in the year 1868 he was married again to Sarah BERRYHILL CROWL, who still survives him. By this marriage, their united families brought together 17 children, 16 of whom are still living. He united with the Presbyterian Church at Bellbrook in 1842, of which he was a member until his death. He held the office of Elder for many years. He died January 24, 1884 aged 65 years 4 months and 19 days. "Blessed are the dead that died in the Lord". Funeral from the Presbyterian Church at Bellbrook on the 27th, at 11 o'clock.
